State Budget is Passed
July 3, 2012
The governor signed the $27.7 billion budget which included $150 million more for basic subsidy funding. The legislature and governor were unable to come to agreement on funding increases for special education or funding reform for charter schools. The newly proposed teacher and principal evaluation system currently being used on a trial basis in 260 school districts now becomes a requirement over the next few years. While nothing was done on any pension reform with this budget, it is expected to be the keystone of the 2013-14 budget negotiations.
