Lehigh University Section 504 Coordinators Institute – June 28–29, 2018
May 30, 2018
Lehigh University has announced its Section 504 Coordinators Institute, June 28-29, 2018. This two-day focused program is specially designed for you. It will provide the latest legal developments and the shared effective practices among new and experienced 504 coordinators from across the country. In addition to this theoretical framework, a practical emphasis of the Institute will be “how to” guidance to inform the every-day work of building administrators and others who direct Section 504 implementation. The topics and presenters for this special institute are as follows:
Exploring Differences between Section 504/ADA and the IDEA: The Basics and the Nuances Presented by Dr. Perry Zirkel, university professor emeritus of education and law at Lehigh University (Pennsylvania)
Beyond the Basics: Top Current Issues under Section 504/ADA, Presented by: Julie Weatherly, school attorney (Alabama), Reactor: Tanya Alvarado, parent attorney (Pennsylvania)
Section 504 Nuts and Bolts: Getting Down to Brass Tacks, Presented by Lisa Hardcastle, coordinator of Section 504 and dyslexia, Clear Creek Independent School District (Texas)
Pulling Together the Strands of Section 504 Implementation: An Informal Discussion Among Colleagues, Moderated by Lisa Hardcastle
As an additional option, consider attending any or all of the preceding three days of the week-long Special Education Law Symposium, which features an advanced track of additional “hot topics” and a basic track of IDEA foundational knowledge.
