EpiPen Bill Update
November 22, 2013
House Bill 803 allows schools to obtain a prescription for a supply of epinephrine auto injectors (EpiPens) and contains provisions concerning staff training, administration and storage of the EpiPens. The bill was amended to clarify that the provisions of the bill are in compliance with Section 504 of the federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and state Chapter 15 regulations for protected handicapped students. Other changes require that 911 be called after administration of the epinephrine pen and allow parents to opt out.
