On June 3rd from 5:30-7 p.m, the #Choose2TeachPA Project, in partnership with Teach Plus Pennsylvania and TeachPHL, will host “Why Now?,” a virtual education symposium and panel to address the urgent need for more teachers of color in Pennsylvania. The event will feature Sharif El-Mekki, Founder and CEO of the Center for Black Educator Development, as well as a panel of current and future educators discussing their experiences related to education and racial equity. This symposium is the culminating celebration for students who were nominated by teachers for our letter-writing campaign, but it is open to all students and educators in Pennsylvania, particularly students of color considering teaching and educators of color. In addition to an inspiring program, participants in the event will be eligible for raffle prizes, including two pairs of Apple Airpods.
