The National Association for Pupil Transportation asked the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to waive the “under-the-hood” requirement since bus drivers are not allowed to leave students at any time, not even to check the engine. On January 4, 2022, the Dept. of Transportation, Dept. of Education and the FMCSA granted the waiver.
