Repeat a grade to bridge pandemic learning gaps? Most PA parents say no thanks

Spending an extra year in school — and a second year in the same grade — to pick up the lessons missed last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic apparently doesn’t appeal to many Pennsylvania families. A state law enacted on June 30 gave parents (or students with disabilities age 18 and older) until July 15 to notify their school if they believed repeating last year’s grade would be best for their child. Local district officials and representatives of statewide associations say they are finding the vast majority chose of families passed on the opportunity, which was offered only for the 2021-22 school year.
