Public schools will be a primary, year-one beneficiary of Pa.’s share of American Rescue Act dollars

It looks like public education will be one of the big winners in Pennsylvania’s emerging state budget plan, thanks to Washington D.C. In addition to a $300 million bump in the annual basic education subsidy to K-12 systems – the main unrestricted state appropriation that districts rely on heavily to meet their general budget needs – the 500 public school districts also stand to share in a large slice of the $7.3 billion in federal dollars allocated to Pennsylvania through the American Rescue Plan.
