Leading School Climate Improvement: School Climate Leadership Initiative Course for Administrators
January 18, 2018
The Pennsylvania Department of Education’s (PDE) Safe Schools Office, in partnership with Montgomery Intermediate Unit 23, will be offering a course entitled, “Leading School Climate Improvement: The School Climate Leadership Initiative (SCLI) Course for Administrators.”
The course, which is part of the Pennsylvania Inspired Leadership Series, will address research on the connection between school climate, academic achievement and staff outcomes, and it will introduce a strategic school climate improvement process based upon the work of the National School Climate Center. Job-embedded assignments will involve administrators, with the support of a school-based team, in activities designed to improve the school community’s readiness for school climate improvement. The course will also prepare administrators to oversee the administration of the PA School Climate Survey.
School leaders who successfully complete the course will be awarded 39.5 hours of PIL credit. Administrators may wish to invite members of their school climate team to attend the face-to-face PIL sessions for Act 48 credit.
The course will meet on the following dates/times at the MCIU or a nearby location (TBA): February 14 (9:00 AM-2:30 PM); March 19 (9 AM-12:30 PM); and April 18 (9:00 AM -12:30 PM).
